What earthly treasures are you accumulating? Some people consider an abundance of money, expensive or rare jewels, beautiful furnishings, rare tapestries and carpets, fine clothes, collector automobiles, and the sort to be the biggest part of their earthly “treasures.” Nowhere does it say that we as humans may not have nice things.
“There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.” ~ Ecclesiastes 2:24 (KJV)
My husband and I love to go out exploring garage sales on the weekends to find small inexpensive “treasures.” There is really no comparison between the two kinds of earthly “treasures” that I have described. We live a simple, but fulfilling, life. God wants each of His children to be joyful ~ so we measure our joy accordingly. A treasure is a treasure after all!
Scripture references “treasure” in many places. Read Matthew 6:19-24 “Teachings On Treasures in Heaven.” (KJV) verse 19 begins: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth or rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:”
“Your decrees are my treasure; they are truly my heart’s delight.” ~ Psalm 119:111
Beach rocks are some of God’s precious jewels. You can find them along beaches all around the world. Some are polished and some are plain ~ just like His human and other creations. Have you ever picked one up to keep as a souvenier? Did you pick it out carefully?
“The Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he promised, and that you are to keep all his commands.” ~ Deuteronomy 26:18
We are each a treasure to the Lord. The more we understand our immeasurable value to God, who knows everything about us, the more special and treasured we should feel. Allow Him to work through your life so others will see His goodness reflected through your actions. Be obedient and be blessed as you serve Him in humility. You are His treasure ~ His special creation.
[“Each precious soul is a living jewel ~ A treasure set apart for the Lord ~ To reflect through every facet of life ~ The eternal light of His Holy Word. From dust each gem was created ~ Sealed with love for all eternity ~ To display to a world in darkness ~ God’s crown jewels of victory.” ~ Sylvia Lavallee]
Let us continue with Matthew 6:20 which says: “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:”
I especially love the verse: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” ~ Matthew 6:21 Do you really want to be concentrating on accumulating earthly treasures or is your heart fixed upon heaven?
